While working with e-mails you can use various protocols, for example, SMTP which is responsible for outgoung mail and protocols for incoming mail – POP3 and IMAP.
Until quite recently only users of paid inbox.lv subscription had an opportunity to use IMAP protocol for operations with their e-mail. Those who used free version had no choice as they could only operate with POP3 protocol.
Since the beginning of 2016 IMAP protocol has become available for all inbox.lv users and it is offered by default at the moment of automatic setup of e-mail client (program).
The main difference between IMAP and POP3 is an opportunity of full synchronization of e-mail client data with server – including folders, outgoing e-mails and drafts of messages. Also e-mail search is available directly at the server and the option of downloading only e-mail titles to a gadget for space saving purpose is available.
Inbox.lv continues to support operation of two protocols – POP3 and IMAP. Each of those has its own advantages and drawbacks so the choice of the most convenient depends on situation and requirements of users.
For example, if a user usually works with mail from one computer there is no necessity to store e-mails on the server. If you want to save time you might choose POP3. If you want more options for work with e-mails then your choice should be IMAP.
In case you have decided to work via IMAP protocol please use the following parameters of e-mail client configuration:
- Incoming mail server (IMAP-server): mail.inbox.lv
- Outgoing mail server (SMTP-server): mail.inbox.lv
- IMAPs server port (using SSL encryption): 993
