“Cannes Lions 2017”: how we went to the International Festival of Creativity.

The International Festival of Creativity “Cannes Lions” is the most important event of the marketing and advertising industry in the world, traditionally held every year in Cannes, France. For the fourth year in a row, the Inbox.lv portal is the official representative of “Cannes Lions” and this year also the main general sponsor of the competition in Latvia.

This year, almost fifty of the best teams from all over the world took part in the “Cyber” category of the Young Lions competition – each team consisting of 2 people. The national selection organised by Inbox.lv was won by Rihards Gromuls and Andrejs Kirma, who earned the chance to represent Latvia in Cannes. During the festival of creativity, they managed not only to prove their abilities and gain a lot of new knowledge, but also to become two of the eight main characters in the documentary “Future Face of Creativity” by the American media group “Wired”. As the film’s producers explain, the film features portraits of eight participants of “Cannes Lions” who, in their view, stood out the most.

“In Cannes we experienced the whole range of emotions – both joy and tears. The competition itself was harder than we expected – if only emotionally. But overall, of course, it is indescribable – to be at an event of that level and, on top of that, to become characters in a documentary. The people we met, the new contacts and the knowledge we gained are the greatest value,” comments Rihards. It should be noted that this year was also special because Inbox.lv, in cooperation with the university Riseba.lv, organised a competition in which students had to create an original solution to a given brief. The winner of the competition, the smart and talented Lelde Veinberga, became the only participant from Latvia in the „Roger Hatchuel Academy” and travelled to Cannes from 18 to 23 June to gain new knowledge. Each year, only 35 students from around the world are admitted to the Roger Hatchuel Academy.

“For several years now, the Inbox.lv portal has been the official representative of the festival in Latvia. We believe that by helping young talent grow, we are looking after the development of the industry in the country as a whole. Our motto is “Uniting our own for great things”, and enabling our own young people to take part in this international competition embodies this goal in the most direct sense,” says Andris Griķis, Chairman of the Board of SIA INBOKSS.
