This year in job shadow day students most often choose programmer’s profession

At last week’s career education event Job Shadow Day, 11 young people from all over Latvia took the opportunity to shadow employees of the national e-service Inbox.lv, not only to get acquainted with their future profession, but also to have a good time, gain new knowledge and make new contacts.

It must be said that this year students most often wanted to shadow programmers – the largest number of shadows were interested in the profession of front-end developer. As noted by Jānis Krievāns, Chairman of JA Latvija, every year the tendency to shadow only top-level executives on Job Shadow Day is decreasing, while highly qualified specialists are becoming more in demand. The changes in the ranking of the most popular professions and industries show that young people increasingly see “Job Shadow Day” as a tool and aid in choosing their future profession, rather than as entertainment, shadowing some popular public figure or spending a day outside school.

We – the high-tech company Inbox.lv – are truly pleased that for several years in a row young people have shown interest in our company and especially in technical professions. This year, the youngest participant of the event was Valters, a 5th-grade student from Riga Hanza Secondary School, who spent his exciting day shadowing IT project manager Kristaps Armanis, while 11th and 12th grade students driven by serious goals also came to the shadow day.
