Every year in Latvia hundreds of people are defrauded online – not only falling for the schemes of fake lottery organisers and internet scammers, but also believing misleading information spread on behalf of Inbox.lv with the aim of luring out users’ login details. As the number of various fraudulent e-mails has increased significantly over the past few days, the national e-service Inbox.lv urges users to stay vigilant and to avoid disclosing any confidential information, as well as making payments for unclear purposes or to unclear recipients. It should be noted that internet fraudsters sometimes pose as e-mail server administrators in order to obtain e-mail account access details and later use e-mail to infect computers for further data theft. We therefore wish to stress that Inbox.lv will never send e-mails asking you to provide account passwords or other important information.
As security experts point out, fraudulent e-mails increasingly use intimidation techniques, for example “Your e-mail will be deleted!”, demanding that the user react quickly. If you have received a suspicious-looking message and are not sure about its sender, please first inform our technical support team by writing to support@inbox.lv and we will advise you on how to act in the specific situation.
