A filter is one of the most important helpers when working with mail – it should not be underestimated! A properly configured filter can make your work considerably easier, as it takes over the key function ‒ sorting your messages ‒ and thus frees you from the need to constantly sort messages into folders or delete spam. It would be wrong to think that the Inbox.lv mail service alone should fight all spam; of course, our technical team is working on this issue, constantly adding new protection features, but it should be noted that on average more than 8 million spam messages pass through the Inbox.lv mail server every day, which are automatically deleted and never reach users, and there are also days when the amount of spam increases two or even five times.
There are also messages that users themselves have subscribed to, by mistake or for some other reason. In such cases we are powerless, because these are messages we are obliged to deliver. Often they are not even spam, but advertising-related messages that have lost their relevance over time. There are two options ‒ either try to unsubscribe from them yourself, or create a filter that will automatically mark the message in question as spam. It must be said that a filter is the most reliable way to solve the problem.
All incoming messages received by Inbox.lv users pass through internal spam rejection filters. In other words, these filters receive information about all messages ‒ where they come from and for what purpose they are sent, but what information is reflected there depends solely on how competent the senders of the message are, or on how correctly the mailbox settings are configured. Inbox.lv does not invent its own rules for accepting messages ‒ these are generally accepted standards available to everyone on the internet. Given the enormous volume of incoming messages, we cannot afford to ignore or miss anything. Analysing users’ questions about why invoices from some companies, password recovery messages and other important information end up in the “Spam” folder, we can say that in 97% of cases the problem lies on the sender’s side, in 2% of cases the situation is caused by incorrectly configured rules on the user’s side, and only in 1% of cases are these issues related to the specifics of how Inbox.lv mail works. The message delivery system is immensely large and has millions of subtle aspects. Don’t torment yourself! Don’t wait for the sender to solve their problems with their messages. It will be much easier and faster for you to add a filter that will automatically move messages from such an address or domain to the “Inbox” folder. Use all the possibilities filters offer! Filters can also automatically mark messages as “important”, for example, messages from your boss, your coach, or important invoices.
If misfortune has struck and your e-mail address has fallen into the hands of malicious spammers and you cannot cope with the flow of spam ‒ try changing the protection level to “enhanced”. In most cases this helps users restore their mailbox to normal. We would also like to invite you to take an active part in improving the Inbox.lv anti-spam system! Report all unwanted messages that end up in your mailbox ‒ feel free to click the “Spam” button at the top of the message. We will process all received reports, and the messages that receive the most complaints will be blocked automatically.
Finally, we would like to add that when creating new filters, you should pay attention to the criteria by which messages will be filtered. In the “from” field, try to specify not the full e-mail address but only the domain ‒ in that case the rule will apply to all incoming messages from that domain, not just to a specific address.
