Inbox.lv: let’s think about our virtual security as well

September 9,2013

Almost every day malevolent persons think of new ways how to access data of e-mail users and use it for various reasons. Inbox.lv filters stop 95-97% of spam on a daily basis; we also use secure data transfer protocols, latest anti-viruses and other software. However, putting in other words known proverb, «e-mail service provider helps those who help themselves», so we want to share some easy ways how to prevent Your data getting into the wrong hands.

One of the most popular cyber crimes nowadays is hooking the data, also called «phishing», when criminals use various tricky methods to access internet banking passwords, credit cards or bank accounts data, e.t.c. The acquired data is then used for financial frauds or to steal virtual identity. Often such e-mails promise easy money, another trick is setting up a page that looks like Your bank asks You to enter and confirm Your data — but no finance company or bank does that, never. If You receive an e-mail form unknown sender which asks for Your personal data, don’t reply to it and click on the links in that e-mail — forward this e-mail to support@inbox.lv.

We specifically recommend You to avoid registering Your e-mail at those websites where it is used for free access to some service or lottery. For such purposes, You can create another e-mail account, which holds no important information.

Always be cautious when using public computers or networks. If You use a public computer, remember: log out from every website You visit. When using a public network, make sure that antivirus is turned on and is working properly. In case You need to perform any action that involves entering credit card number, internet banking data, e.t.c, we recommend to do it from safe and secure network at home or at work. If You cannot wait, then check that website’s address starts with https — secure data transfer protocol.

If You have any questions regarding e-mail security and Your data online privacy, ask us by sending Your question to support@inbox.lv.
